This map of North Carolina shows general rates of disability across the state at the county level. Disability rates are broken into five categories from 8.4 to 24.2%.

The five largest urban areas (Winston-Salem, Greensboro, Durham, Raleigh, and Fayetteville) are labeled to show if there are any differences between disability rates in urban vs rural areas. Most of North Carolina is designated as metropolitan, or urban, but there are overall higher rates of disability in rural counties than urban ones. There are lower rates of disability (8.4 to 14.4% and 14.5 to 16.3%) in the center of the state, including and surrounding the five largest urban areas. Higher rates, of 20.2 to 24.2%, and 18.1 to 20.1%, can be found along the east coast, near the Virginia boarder, and in the western part of state.

In the upper corner is an inset map of the United States showing how overall general disability rates in North Carolina compare to the rest of the country. Overall, general disability rates in North Carolina are in the second lowest category compared to the rest of the U.S.
