Technology
For the person with a disability who lives in a rural area, severe isolation, general unavailability of human and medical services, massive inaccessibility, and limited financial resources can make the need for durable and affordable technological devices even more critical than for their urban counterparts. Often it is these rural environmental barriers that contribute to increased functional limitations. Technology holds promise for enhancing the lives of individuals with disabilities in rural areas by offering greater independence and social integration. Unfortunately, rural circumstances and characteristics often make it more difficult to obtain or use such devices.
