Prevalence Rate and Average Severity of Care-related Injuries Reported by Adults with Developmental Disabilities

Severity was rated on a zero to three functional limitation scale.  Zero indicated no limitation due to injury and a three indicated significant or chronic limitation due to injury.

The prevalence rate of care-related injury to a consumer was one hundred eight per one thousand consumers, with an average severity of 1.2 per injury.  The prevalence rate of care-related injury to others was one hundred eight per one thousand consumers, with an average severity of 1.4 per injury.

The prevalence rate of equipment-related injury to a consumer was ninety-one per one thousand consumers, with an average severity rate of 1.0 per injury.   The prevalence rate of equipment-related injury to others was eighty-three per one thousand consumers, with an average severity of 1.4 per injury.
