Rural and Urban Counselor Views of Self-Employment
Counselors were asked to use the following adjective pairs and scale to describe how they usually view self-employment.
"Inefficient" was rated one on a scale of one to nine.
"Efficient" was rated nine. Forty rural counselors gave self-employment an
average rating of 5.0. Eighteen urban counselors rated it at 4.3.
"Unsuccessful" was rated one on a scale of one to nine.
"Successful" was rated nine. Forty rural counselors gave self-employment
an average rating of 5.0. Eighteen urban counselors rated it at 3.7. This
item was statistically significant.
"Inflexible" was rated one on a scale of one to nine. "Flexible"
was rated nine. Forty rural counselors gave self-employment an average rating of
5.8. Eighteen urban counselors rated it at 5.4.
"Risky" was rated one on a scale of one to nine. "Promising" was
rated nine. Forty rural counselors gave self-employment an average rating of 3.9.
Nineteen urban counselors rated it at 2.6. This item was statistically significant.
"Unrealistic" was rated one on a scale of one to nine.
"Realistic" was rated nine. Forty rural counselors gave self-employment an
average rating of 5.5. Eighteen urban counselors rated it at 3.7. This item was
statistically significant.
"Difficult" was rated one on a scale of one to nine. "Easy" was
rated nine. Forty rural counselors gave self-employment an average rating of 3.4.
Eighteen urban counselors rated it at 2.6.
