Description of Figure 1: World View Pre-Self Actualization Conflicts.

The four traditional major areas of life are spiritual, social, training, and family.  In the first generation, the spiritual values and standards manifest themselves in ceremonies.  The social values and standards are cultural.  Training is done by elders.  The entire tribe is the person's family.

In the second generation, the spiritual values and standards are observant.  The social values and standards are adapted.  Training is done by grandparents.  Relatives are the person's family.

In the third generation, the spiritual values and standards are associated.  The social values and standards are occasional.  Training is done by parents.  The person's family is extended.

In the fourth generation, spiritual values and standards manifest themselves in religious worship.  Social values and standards are infrequent and recreational.  Teachers provide education.  The person's family is nuclear.

By the fourth generation, the major areas of life have become more contemporary.  Spiritual values and standards are manifested in religion.  Social values and standards manifest themselves in recreation.  Education replaces training. The self is more important than the family.
