Dear CIL Director and CIL Board Chair,
Before we publish the first map of U.S. Geographic
Distribution of CIL Based Independent Living Services, we are checking with each
CIL to verify that our data are accurate and consistent.
If we do not hear from you by May 7, 2004, we will assume that the enclosed
information is accurate for each county listed on the yellow form: [1] Your CIL
is responsible for the 4 Core IL Services, and [2] that in each of the counties
you are responsible for, the disability population is served (not underserved or
unserved).
Last year we asked CILs to list the counties for which they received State
and/or Federal funds to provide the 4 core Independent Living Services. But the
answers appeared to be inconsistent. Some CILs reported the counties which they
are funded to serve (responsibility), and others reported on the counties they
were actually able to serve (capacity).
On the attached yellow verification form, please verify the counties which your
CIL is responsible for providing the 4 Core IL services, and indicate your
Center’s capacity to provide the 4 Core IL Services in each county for which it
is responsible. More details on this study are included on the Questions? Sheet,
and in the Instructions for Verifying CIL Service Area (on green paper).
If you have questions, or if you prefer to provide your answers by phone, please
call Alexandra Enders at 406.243.2655. You may also call toll-free 888-268-2743,
and ask for Alexandra, or leave a message for with the best time to return your
call. Or email
enders@ruralinstitute.umt.edu
In appreciation for your time, we have enclosed a national map of the 388 US
CILs. Its also online at
http://rtc.ruralinstitute.umt.edu/RuDis/CIL.htm
The enclosed map which also shows 301 satellite locations will be updated after
you include your CIL’s satellite location data (town, state, and zip code) on
the enclosed purple form
Please do not distribute the unverified maps in this package. In June 2004 we
will send each CIL verified national maps of counties served, with locations of
main centers and satellite offices.
Thank you,
Alexandra Enders
Verified data will be presented for the first time at the 2004 NCIL Conference
Workshop: Policy Implications of CIL Geography: Where Are You and What Will it
Mean?
